something shared is a collaborative performance featuring two Nashville-based dance collectives: Garage Collective and MauveTaupe. This evening of movement will include two devised performances. Garage Collective will explore themes of effort and unity through improvisation. MauveTaupe will perform an improvised score exploring themes of resilience, grit, and resolve. Join us for an evening of dance and play at the Barbershop Theater!
Garage Collective is a Nashville, TN, based movement group co-founded by freelance dance artists Kristen Carrara, McKay House, Emma Morrison, & Amanda Reichert. Since their inception in the Fall of 2022, Garage Collective has been commissioned to create improvisational structures for live performance in locations ranging from art galleries to local music venues. They have performed in collaboration with local musicians at Nelson Drum Shop, Soft Junk, The Blue Room/Third Man Records, Zeitgeist Gallery, COOP Gallery, and the Nashville Pantheon. They have premiered work at Oz Arts Nashville as part of the Brave New Works Lab.
MauveTaupe is a dance performance project between Nashville-based artists Spencer Grady and Phylicia Roybal. This dynamic pairing cultivates atmospheres where movement expresses the depths of their individual and shared identities. Phylicia and Spencer use their backgrounds in dance and somatic practices to develop powerful and intricate partnering, making them a valuable presence in the Nashville dance community. The creative process incorporates impactful set design, varying global soundtracks, and imagery inspired improvisation to support their theatrical concepts. MauveTaupe has been developing work together since 2022 and has performed three long form works supported by Kindling Arts Festival, Animata Arts, and Enactor Productions: Incubator. As the growth of this project continues, this duo strives towards creating more visceral and aesthetically appealing works that push their boundaries and redefine the identity of MauveTaupe.
